In Falmouth the sun was shining down on the women and children
taking part in Race for Life 2014; both individuals and animals gathered at
Gyllyngvase beach to show their support and prepare for the 5K race.
All the women made an effort to dress up; from pink wigs to
pink tutus and even a couple of Cornish pasties. The women were ready to ‘hit
cancer where it hurts’.
Before beginning the race, Heart FM presenter, Victoria
Leigh, gave an inspirational speech to the people taking part in the event.
With support from families and friends the atmosphere was illuminating with
good vibes; even the babies, dogs and men showed their support by wearing
something pink.
A positive event with positive people, locals and supporters happily shared their personal and inspirational stories, talking about why Race for Life is important to them.
Cancer Research volunteer, Ann Marie James, spoke about her work with Cancer Research and her mother’s fight with Cancer:
“I joined Cancer research because my mum was diagnosed with Breast cancer five years ago. This is my second Race for Life in Falmouth, it’s a pleasure to be here and raising money for such a worthy cause.
“It’s nice to see the sunny weather unlike last year when it was pouring down with rain but I dragged my daughter and her best friend to sell flowers, but with the pink and sunny atmosphere it’s nice to add pink flowers to raise more money and awareness.”
Chloe Hallowell from Falmouth talks about why she is running for Race for Life:
“I did Race for Life three years ago but my friend Tanya wanted to run this year so we decided to run together.”
Race for Life brings thousands of women together to help beat cancer, anyone can take part and show their support by simply donating money or participating in the Race for Life. Cancer Research has raised thousands of pounds which has helped them continue their life saving work.
